Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, on Monday revealed some of the qualities anyone seeking to succeed him in 2019 must have.
The governor spoke at an interaction with reporters on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day at the state’s television and radio station, Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Ibadan.
He said though about 34 aspirants have been going round to trumpet their ambition to succeed him, the one that will take over from him should possess the qualities that will help him sustain the good work he has started.
He said such a person should be “a visionary, courageous, intellectual, deep, passionate and compassionate leader who has interest of the people at heart.”
He also said his successor should be a versatile and balanced person as leading the state requires the courage to take the right decisions in the midst of controversies.
When asked if there is anyone among the aspirants who fits into his description, Ajimobi said he knows five aspirants who are qualified to succeed him.
He said: “I’ve seen about five people who can succeed me. We need a complete person for this job.”
The governor however stated that it was too early to engage seriously in such issues, pointing out that it is so because many people are not gainfully engaged.
But he added: “By May next year, I believe we should have an idea of who will succeed me.”
