Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday reiterated his administration’s plan to phase out Danfo (yellow commercial buses) in Lagos and introduce new ones.
The governor, who spoke at the May Day Rally held at the Agege Stadium to commemorate the 2017 Workers Day Celebration, said the phase-out process, Bus Reform Initiative, would create more jobs in the transportation sector.
While the debate on whether danfo buses should go or not is more in favour of the government’s plan, Nigerians began a debate between danfo and Uber/Taxify taxi services on Twitter.
The conversations show that Lagosians would miss: “The hustle to get Danfo..The faces inside Danfo..The gist inside Danfo..The drama inside Danfo..”, as @Urbanculture06 puts it on Twitter.
Below are more arguments in favour of danfo:
@lcookbeatss: Guys,Danfo is cool o especially if you are sitting at the window side you’ll just be noticing fine fine cars to buy when you are rich
@Daking_Iam: You get the most creative ideas when you’re inside a Danfo bus around Lagos through peoples matters, nature, colours, Third Mainland Bridge.
@BolajiOdesanya: So y bent on fixing the problem all at once was in Togo some years back and they were askng me abt Danfo i was full of pride Danfo is LAGOS
@kefcee-lee: Danfo and Uber are not mates. What Danfo can see while standing, uber will have to use a ladder
Some argued against danfo – how they squeeze you in the back like sardines, when the rickety ones tear your new cloths and how the conductor spits in the face during the “where your money” time.
So, some people prefer the tush transport – Uber. This created a danfo fans/Uber fans dichotomy
Picasso, is food not more important than opinion? Jumia Food Nigeria says it can reach you because they do not discriminate.
It tweeted: “Whether you move around in a Taxi, Danfo or your car. We don’t discriminate. We deliver to everyone.”
