Armed robbers on Monday invaded the home of Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi in Jos, Plateau State, taking away valuables and beating up the footballer’s father.
Reports said the robbers also made away with a white Toyota Highlander and an undisclosed amount of cash.
It was learnt that the robbers disguised as courier men who had a parcel to deliver to the player’s father.
Onazi, told a close friend from his base in Turkey that: “Those robbers came, pretending they were there to deliver a letter to my dad at about 1.40pm on Monday. But as soon as he collected their fake letter and asked where it was coming from they swooped on him, tied his hands, beat him up, inflicting machete cuts on him in the process.
” They told him this is the first in a series of attacks that they will launch on our house and that I( Onazi) will be their target the next time.
“Those guys took their time to take some valuable materials including car and some cash but I am thankful to God they didn’t do more than that.”
His family has reported the incident and the police have promised to track down the hoodlums and recover the stolen items.
Reports also have it that Ogenyi Onazi’s dad has been discharged from hospital where he was treated for the injuries inflicted on him during the attack.
