Celebrity US chef, Anthony Bourdain, has died. He was 61. Reports say the cause of his death is suicide.
He was the host of “Parts Unknown”, a CNN TV series on food and travel.
The network reports that Bourdain hanged himself in a hotel room in Strasbourg, France, where he had been working on an upcoming episode of his show.
Bourdain’s death is the second suicide this week of a high-profile American figure. Designer Kate Spade, who built a fashion empire on her signature handbags, hanged herself in her New York apartment on Tuesday.
“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” CNN said in a statement Friday morning. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
