The Senate has suspended Senator Ali Ndume for six monthsfor not conducting any check before raising an alarm of a certificate scandal on Senator Dino Melaye and the SUV-Customs saga linking Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The suspension starts today, March 29, 2017.
The Committee on Ethics and Privileges had recommended in its report on the hearing, that Ndume be suspended for 191 days because as a former senate leader, he ough to have conducted due investigation before raising such an allegation.
But after several suggestions from senators, the senate decided to reduce the suspension to six months.
Senate President Bukola Saraki had stepped down for Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to hear and lead the senate in taking a decision.
