The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) a non-profit and non-governmental organization in collaboration with the Ford Foundation is implementing a project for youths interested in political office in the Niger Delta with focus on three states- Edo, Delta and Bayelsa.
A statement by the centre said “the project will build the capacity of youths who are determined to make change happen with their participation in not just governance but also in occupying political offices where they can make this change a reality”.
It said “the project is interested in providing youths interested in political office with knowledge and information that will put them on a better pedestal towards achieving their respective objectives looking ahead into the 2019 general elections”
The Centre is currently calling for applications from qualified youths interested in political offices who would be trained on Managing the Electoral Process and Election Observation; Introduction to Democracy, Politics and Party Organizing; Campaign Planning and Message Development; Public Speaking; Election Campaign Framework (Electoral Laws and Political Parties Code of Conduct, and Campaign Financing.
It said a total of 80 youths per state (Edo, Delta and Bayelsa) would be selected and trained.
The statement said the mission of the Centre is to work with forces of positive change to empower citizens to transform society.
“The Centre is guided by the values of transparency and accountability; integrity; feminism; diversity; the dignity of the human person and Pan-Africanism.
“The Centre is focused on issues of leadership-leadership (leadership and leader development), Strategy (Strategic plan formulation and development for Organizations) and Development- (policy advocacy, democratic governance, elections, political parties, oil and gas issues, budgets, etc).”

Qualification:
• Candidate must be from the three focal states of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa.
• Must be within the age bracket of 24 – 34 years (Male/Female)
• Must be a card-carrying member of a political party
• Must have interest in contesting election at any level of governance in the states
• Must be committed to change the extant narrative about youths and politics
• Must have at least a Senior Secondary School Certificate
Deadline for submission is March 28, 2018.
The selection process will ensure fairness, non-discrimination, confidentiality and transparency. Applications from the female gender are particularly encouraged. Women who meet the criteria above are enjoined to apply.
