The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Oyo State, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, has denied that the government has declared a public holiday for teachers in the state to commenmorate World Teachers Day.
According to an earlier report, a media source had quoted a statement purportedly issued by the commissioner as saying that Wednesday, April 5, 2017, has been declared as a work-free day for all teachers in the state to mark the 2017 World Teachers Day.
But in a phone conversation with Newspeakonline, Prof. Olowofela debunked the report, saying he never issued any such statement not even when “tomorrow is not World Teachers Day”.
He asked teachers in the state and the general public to ignore the report.
