Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has assured civil servants in the state that none of them would be forced to vote for any candidate in the March and April elections. He however warned them to stay away from partisan politics.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday during an interactive meeting with different categories of workers, Fayose said civil servants are by their operation expected to support government of the day, saying any of them found playing partisan politics would be sanctioned
He said his government would continue to place high premium on the welfare of workers, in spite of the tight financial situation of the State.
He noted that he inherited a debt of N7.7 billion as arrears of salaries and allowances of workers, but promised that the workers’ demands would be met as soon as the state’s finances improves.
He words: “Ekti is financially challenged now in view of the huge debt left behind by immediate past government and drop in oil price. This is not an attempt to malign anybody but we have to state the facts as they are. We have tried to borrow money from banks, but they refused because we have not paid the one that was borrowed by the last administration. So, we can’t pay all allowances now.”
