The Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose on Thursday declared that God has destined him to lead Nigeria, boasting that he would defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in a free and fair presidential election.
Fayose spoke in Abuja on Thursday at his declaration to be the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections.
But hours after his declaration, the EFCC picked up two of his aides – Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General over allegations of mismanaging bailout funds.

Reacting to the arrest on Channels TV’s Politics Today wih Seun Okinbaloye, Fayose wondered why the arrest coincided with his declaration.
“This govt is not tolerant of opposition. Why does the arrest of my commissioners coincide with my declaration”, he said.
Later on Twitter, he wondered why critics who say he does not matter, have refused to ignore him.
He tweeted: “If you say I’m not an issue, why can’t you ignore me? #FayoseDeclares”

“The arrestors of today would be arrested tomorrow”, he added.
Speaking earlier the convention, Fayose promised to steer Nigeria’s economic fortune back to a height of glory and ensure diversification of the country’s economy through agriculture, adequate power supply and creation of jobs for youths.
His words: “Our country is faced with myriads of problems, our economy that was the fastest growing in Africa when our party was in power has gone comatose with the present managers who are completely clueless.”
Fayose remarked that Nigeria had never been more divided along ethnic and religious lines as it is now under the present Buhari administration.
“Most worrisome is the fact that our country is now more divided than ever before with the unity of the country being threatened due to nepotism, religious bigotry, and favoritism of the present government,” he said.
