Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in police custody over allegations relating to campaign financing, reports in France say.
Police are quizzing him in relation to financing from Libya during the 2007 presidential campaign which he won, according to Le Monde.
An inquiry into the financing of the 2007 election was opened in April 2013 and it is the first time that M Sarkozy has spoken about it.
He can be held by police for up to 48 hours before facing magistrates.
