For correctly predicting 17 football matches in a competition run by a betting company SportPesa, a man has won more than $2million.
Kenya’s Daily Nation reports that the payout is set to be one of the biggest in Africa.
The winner will be unveiled at an event in the capital, Nairobi.
It was learnt that the man put $2 on two mega jackpot picks in which he had to predict the outcomes of 17 games selected by SportPesa.
A statement from SportPesa says its CEO Ronald Karauri called the winner who was already celebrating:
The consumer said he met his friend with whom they bet and as they were discussing what to do with the millions a call came through.
The CEO advised the winner, who was screaming, to end his night out, to which he said, ‘I’m going home right away’. ”
According to BBC Sport, in its 2017/16 budget the government introduced a 50% tax on the profits of betting companies, a decision that the industry criticised saying it would kill the fledgling industry.
SportPesa is a shirt sponsor of Premier League club Hull City.
