The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has distanced himself from the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, especially amid rumours that he plans contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said he was not a member of the APC and could not be contesting for its party nomination.
The ex-CBN governor and 13 others were yesterday reported by some national dailies to have indicated interest to contest the election on the APC ticket.
The state chairman of the party, Mr. Emeka Ibe, was quoted to have disclosed to some reporters that Prof. Soludo was among the contenders for the party’s nomination for the Anambra governorship election.
But Soludo, who expressed surprise at the report, said he had received several calls, texts and emails seeking clarification on the matter since appearance of the said publications.
“I also sought and obtained the phone number of the said state chairman and spoke to him in order to ascertain the veracity of the story,” he said.
He, however, said the state chairman said he was misreported by the journalists.
“I wish to clarify that I am not a member of the APC and could therefore not be contesting for its party nomination,” Soludo said.
