The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deregistered 3,000 voters in Edo State because of multiple registrations.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this Tuesday in Benin City.
He said the measure would serve as a deterrent to persons who engaged in unlawful multiple voting.
The REC also disclosed that a total of 474,000 Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) representing 31 percent of registered persons were yet to be collected in the state.
He attributed inconclusive elections to non-adherence to rules and election guidelines and called on all stakeholders to support the INEC in their quest for peaceful elections.
