Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Abiodun Jelili Owonikoko, who sponsored the just concluded seventh annual Inter-Local Government Quiz Competition in Iseyin, Oyo State, has promised to offer scholarships to winners in the next edition.
In his message, Chief Owonikoko, represented by Alhaji Waheed said education should lead to an ideal life which is devoted to the disinterested pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. He said he would personally attend next year’s competition.
The legal icon who hails from Oke-Eyin community in Iseyin Local Government, is the Bamofin of Oke-Ogun land.
The Baale of Oke-Eyin community, high Chief Michael Kehinde Ayoola, described Chief Owonikoko as ‘’a hardworking fellow, brillian lawyer, renowned scholar and visionary leader whose antecedents of
untainted character, patriotism, selfless service and clarity of thought have showcased and singled him out of Iseyin and Oke-Ogun in general’’.
The State Co-ordinator of the National Youth Service Corps [NYSC], represented by Mrs Ajose, zonal Inspector of NYSC for Ibarapa, commended the sponsor of the programme for his selflessness, passion and resilience for the downtrodden and younger generations in particular.
Four local governments, Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa, took part in the competition, as three senior public secondary schools were drawn from each of the councils to participate.
At the end of the competition, Iseyin Local Government emerged the winner, Itesiwaju Local Government took second position in the first runners up, while Iwajowa Local Government came third in the second runners up.
