The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, on Monday in Abuja, held a meeting with the aspirants for the party’s National Chairman position.
The party is set to conduct its National Convention on December 9, 2017.
At the meeting, Makarfi told the aspirants that the National Caretaker Committee has no power to micro zone the office of National Chairman. He stated that the Convention of the party has already zoned the position of President to the North and that of National Chairman to the South.
He however added that the 76th NEC Meeting will sit later in the day to take a decision on the matter.
Aspirants for the chairmanship position are mostly from the South West. They include Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Chief Olabode George, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Professor Tunde Adeniran and Jimi Agbaje.
Some of the aspirants from the South West have kicked against the proposal of a consensus candidate which proponents said would help the zones chances against the South South and South East that have Chief Raymond Dokpesi and Prince Uche Secondus respectively.
