The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Convoy of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Mr Idowu Oyewole, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers.
Reports said Oyewole, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was gunned down in his house along Akure-Owo road, Akure, in the early hours of Thursday.
Oyewole, 45 and a father of three was shot dead in his house along Akure/Owo road in the state capital after a three armed gang attacked him.
Daily Post reports that a neighbour who did not want his name in print said Oyewole ran to his house and told them to lock the door because armed robbers were on the street.
She said they could not locate where he was until the morning when they saw his corpse on the ground. It was believed that the 45- year-old father of three, was trying to make it to a nearby hospital before he fell as a result of the gun shot wounds.
A source in the neighbourhood said after attacking the Police Officer, they came to his house and took his four-year-old boy hostage and told the wife to open the door, saying they would kill the boy if she did not open the door.
After waiting at the door and moving around the compound with the boy for about 30 minutes without gaining access to the house, the hoodlums hit the boy’s head with cutlass and he sustained injury on the head.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Femi Joseph who confirmed the killing of the officer attached to the Mobile Unit of the Force said investigation has commenced on the incident.
Joseph described late Oyewole as disciplined and hard working officer. His words “we deserve your condolences. He was a discipline officer. Our eyes are heavy.”
