Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has been named the new chairman of the 54-nation African Union (AU).
The announcement was made on Friday morning during the AU’s two-day heads of state summit at it’s headquarters in Addis Abbaba, capital of Ethiopia.
Mugabe, 90, succeeds Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
Mugabe has been Zimbabwe’s president since 1980
