A former deputy governor of Oyo State, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, has commended Governor Abiola Ajimobi for choosing to implement the law creating 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
According to Oladokun, who was the Deputy Governor in the state from 1999-2003 when the law was made, those opposing the move do not mean well for the people of Oyo state.
He said Ajimobi should be commended for exercising the political will to implement the law after it was passed 14 years ago.
His words: “I commend Governor Abiola Ajimobi for carrying out his promise to the electorate to create more local governments now known as LCDAs. I commend him for the political will in the face of the current challenging circumstances. As a proud member of the administration that initiated the process of creating the LCDAs, the new move is highly commendable. Ajimobi’s courage, forthrightness and his love for the people in bringing government closer to the people is commendable.
“It is a way of creating opportunities for our people to have more say in how they are governed. It will bring government closer to the grassroots people.
“I urge other arms of government having one thing or the other to do in completing the process to expedite action in bringing the laudable idea to fruition.”
“To Accord party and its leadership opposing this laudable and long overdue idea, they are only behaving to type because after the birth of the baby 14 years ago, they purportedly aborted the pregnancy under another political garb. But unknown to them, they can’t abort an already born child. They will only put him to sleep and, our man of history has just in his characteristic way of doing uncommon things in uncommon ways, has decided to wake up the child to nurture him for healthy growth for the benefit of all Oyo State people.
“This only goes a long way to show our people that it is only a progressive government that has their interest at heart. All others are just pretenders who are in politics to feather only their nests and pockets. Governor Ajimobi should ignore them and go on with the good job he is doing for the people of Oyo State.”
