Former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore on Friday hosted members of the Ife Ooye Medical team, a group of Medical practitioners of Ife extraction based in North America.
According to a member of the team, Dr. Olabisi Jagun, said over 5000 pepople have benefitted from free consultation, drugs and other health related exercises.
Showering encomiums on the team for their medical outreach programmes in Ile Ife, Omisore said: “I’m impressed by what you are doing as you are giving back to the society in your own way as this will go along way to assist our people who have health challenges but are not financially buoyant to treat their health.
“There is nothing that can be compared with sound health as when you are healthy; you are productive; but the moment one have health challenges , it becomes an issues.”
He recalled that during his tenure as Chairman of Senate committee on Appropriations, he appropriated over N4billion to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex,Ile-Ife to facilitate all the infrastructural development in phase 4 of the Hospitals.
He added: “I also made sure that the link road between the University and the Teaching Hospitals were completed.
“Reason I made it a point of duty that every first day of every year; I would always celebrates the new year with patients in the hospital and offset their bills because total health is very important.”
Facilitator of the team, Dr. Mide Lawson, said his team members saw the need to come back home and give back to their people because “all of us have one or two things to do with Ife; were born here, while others schooled in Ife.
He said the medical outreach would be a yearly event in collaboration with Obafemi Awolowo University Health Centre.
