One killed as blast hits bank near US embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan

A bomb blast has hit a bank close to the heavily protected US embassy building in the Afghan capital of Kabul, according to officials.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said the blast occured at the entrance to a Kabul Bank branch, not far from the embassy.

At least one person has been cnfirmed dead with about eight said to be injured although their condition is not yet known.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident, which came as people were withdrawing money ahead of the Muslim Eid holiday at the end of this week.
