The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has slammed a former member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, for scoring Governor Abiola Ajimobi very low in governance.
Lanlehin criticized Ajimobi during an interview on an Ibadan-based radio programme tagged ‘Political Circuit’ at the weekend.
“In a situation where somebody grabs all the power and refuses to use it to better the lot of the people but only talks down on them, it will not be possible to stay put with such people”, Lanlehin said, on why he could not be in the same party with the governor.
Lanlehin accused the governor of constructing massive 4-lane roads while residents are hungry. He stated that what the state needed were simply internal roads that would help farmers in rural areas move their produce movement of agricultural produce.
He also accused Ajimobi of insincerity, saying he was not ready to conduct local government elections.
The former senator just joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the reason of the merger of Accord party with the former. He was an Accord chieftain before the merger.
But reacting through a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, APC described the PDP leader as being popular for politics of bitterness and vindictiveness.
According to the APC, “what else could have made a person with functioning sight to argue that Gov. Ajimobi has not done anything in the last six years if not hypocrisy and lack of sincerity coupled with the fact that the character, in question, is known for his politics of bitterness and vindictiveness?
“For the avoidance of doubt, people like Lanlehin who lived outside the state could not invite their friends to accompany them to Ibadan whenever they visited their kinsmen. Ajimobi came on board in 2011 on account of insecurity, filthy environment and incessant political upheavals. Now that Ajimobi has turned things round for the better, the best Lanlehin could do was to refuse to acknowledge him all in the name of playing politics.
“Meanwhile, we do not have problem with Lanlehin bad mouthing the governor and our party at any given opportunity since he reserves all the right to be bitter and cry over spilled milk as long as he wishes. We only need to remind him that everything he has achieved in politics today was through the progressive platform but it is unfortunate that he has never appreciated this, rather he always betrayed the trust.
“After inflicting a life-long political injury on himself by dumping the ACN/APC in 2014, it is disturbing that Lanlehin would still hold Ajimobi responsible for his current woes. What kind of political player would live in Lagos and frequently sneak into Ibadan at will to rock the boat? In the progressive fold, he became a member of the House of Representatives in 1991, a Commissioner in 1999 and a Senator in 2011 but he now chooses to serve a reactionary force in Ladoja. Is Ajimobi to blame?
“All he could do with our mandate at the Senate between 2011 and 2015 was to hold furtive and nocturnal meetings with former President Goodluck Jonathan’s agents in Abuja for his own selfishness and the result is where he has found himself today. We await the time he would declare his 2019 gubernatorial ambition for us to let the cat out of the bag.” APC stated.
