Local government elections in Oyo State will now hold February 11, 2017, the Oyo state chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, John Ajeigbe, disclosed on Friday.
The state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, while inaugurating the SIEC members months ago, had promised that the much expected elections would hold in September.
But announcing the new date on Friday, Ajeigbe said: “The conduct of election being a process has necessitated that all relevant structures must be put in place, hence, the commission is taking its time to ensure that this is done in order to have an election that will be acceptable to all.
“Arising from the foregoing, the commission is therefore assuring the public that come the first quarter of 2017, the council poll will be conducted on February 11, 2017.”
Local government elections were last conducted in the state on December 15, 2007, during the administration of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
