Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday insisted, for the umpteenth time, that there is no going back on the planned sacking of over 21,000 teachers who failed a competency test back in June.
The test was based on primary 4 examination questions.
El-Rufai’s vow comes in reaction to a protest by the teachers on Wednesday. The protest was led by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which promised to stand by the teachers.
Even though the teachers argue that the state government had no right to conduct competency test, as it was the duty of the Teachers Council to do so, the governor suggested on Thursday that the questions the teachers had to answer was more important that who asked the questions.
He published some of the marked examination scripts of the affected teachers, and the papers show that there is a lot to worry about in the country’s education system.
According to the governor, “We are putting these out in the court of public opinion for Nigerians to make their verdict. Here are some of the primary 4 competency test scripts conducted for primary school teachers in Kaduna State”
