Tennis superstar and new mom, Serena Williams would be separated from her four months old daughter, Alexis Olympia, for a while. She disclosed on social media early Wednesday that she is battling with an illness and placing herself in quarantine.
In a tweet accompanied with a photo of some anti-flu and cold medications , Serena said she is making sure she disinfects and quarantines herself.
She also thanked her hisband, Alexis Ohanian, for his care.
She said: “Currently sick. My current situation. Making sure I disinfect everything and quarantine myself. Thanks @alexisohanian”.
The 36-year old had resumed tennis just three months after giving birth, and demonstrated her fitness in an exhibition defeat to Jelena Ostapenko in Abu Dhabi last month, but she won’t be defending her crown in the Australia Open 2018 which starts January 15.
She cited an inability to “go all the way” in the tournament.
Her words: “My coach and team always said ‘only go to tournaments when you are prepared to go all the way’,” Williams said last week.
“I can compete – but I don’t want to just compete, I want to do far better than that and to do so, I will need a little more time.
“The memory of last year’s Open is one that I will carry with me, and [daughter] Olympia and I look forward to coming back again.”
