President Donald Trump threatened to take over the situation in Chicago where there has reportdly been incessant gun violence within the past year.
He said he would send in the FBI if Chicago authorities does not handle the situation. Last night, a man was killed and five others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Tuesday morning.
Trump tweeted Tuesday evening:
If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible “carnage” going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!
Police said that the fatal shooting was in the Cottage Grove Heights neighborhood, where at 7:40 p.m. a 21-year-old man was shot in the right side of his body and pronounced dead.
Chicago Tribune also reported that most recently, about 8:15 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the Magnolia Glen neighborhood on the North Side. He was in the 5600 block of North Magnolia Avenue when he was shot in the arm. He went to Weiss Memorial Hospital for treatment and was listed in good condition.
The report adds: “About 5:35 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the Lathrop Homes neighborhood on the North Side. He got himself to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition with a gunshot wound to the leg after the shooting in the 2700 block of North Paulina Street”
Trump is also set to announce plans to expedite the building of a wall along the Mexican border. He is reported to also be preparing orders that ban people from countries deemed a terror risk from entering the U.S. as well as suspend the U.S. refugee program.
The President plans to travel Wednesday to the Department of Homeland Security, where he said he would be announcing his border-security plans. He will also include an order aimed at punishing so-called sanctuary cities where law-enforcement officials limit cooperation with federal immigration agencies and add 5,000 border agents, according to a person familiar with the planning.
