Twin explosions rocked Enugu Saturday morning as residents went out to vote in the Local Government election holding in the State.
Reports said the explosions occurred almost at the same time at Coal Camp in Enugu North Local Government Area and Obeagu in Enugu-South Council Area.
Three suspects have reportedly been arrested over the Obeagu explosion.
Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.
He said: “The incident of minor explosion at a spare parts workshop at the entrance in the morning of 4/11/17 leading to a polling station at coal camp axis of Enugu State did not interfere with the voting activities at the polling Centre as the process is still on course there.
“There was a reported incident of explosion in the morning of 4/11/17 at the coal camp axis, which is an enclave of artisans like welders, mechanics, auto electricians amongst others.
“No life was lost just as operatives of the Explosive Ordinance Department of the Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police Force were on hand to to conduct analysis with a view to finding out the possible cause of the explosion at the workshop and its nature and as well as possible circumstance amongst others.”
The caretaker committee chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Ugwu, while reacting to the blast, described it as unfortunate.
He applauded the police for their prompt response, assuring that it would not affect the exercise as “our people are very enthusiastic to vote.”
Voting continued in most of the council areas across the State with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi casting his vote around 11:30 a.m in his Orba ward in Udenu Council Area.
