The University of Ibadan (UI) has advised 37 students of the institution to leave due to poor academic performance as at the last academic session.
The affected students did not pass up to 20 units at the end of their first year of registration.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Pro Abel Idowu Olayinka disclosed this on Thursday at the matriculation of 3,502 students for the 2016/ 2017session, held at the university’s International Conference Centre.
The VC also disclosed that a total of 47 students also had problems with their courses and have been asked to withdraw.
He also said that out of the 29,002 candidates who scored 200 and above in the UTME, only 3,074 were selected.
His words: “In other words, only one out of every 10 admission seekers into the University of Ibadan during the 2016/2017 session and who scored 200 marks and above, out of 400 marks, and in addition had the requisite miminum of five credits at the Senior Secondary School Certificate could secure a place. In addition, 462 were admitted by Direct Entry out of the 2,891 applicants, this representing a slightly higher success rate at 16 percent”.
A total of 3,502 candidates, UTME and Direct Entry inclusive, have been cleared and are expected to take the matriculation.
Prof. Olayinka told the new students that it’s a rare privilege for them to be admitted into the premier university. He also urged them to guard the privilege by following the laid down rules and perform excellently in their academic pursuit.
