A new law seeking to stop people from sending any form of encrypted messages may lead to the ban of whatsapp, snapchat and some other messaging services in the United Kingdom.
The bill, Draft Communications Data Bill, also known was the ‘Snooper’s Charter’ law, may come into effect before the end of this year.
The bill mandates companies to provide documentation of its customers’ online activity.
Earlier this year, UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, said he would not allow a means of communication to enable terrorists to access safe spaces to communicate with each other.
His words: “In our country, do we want to allow a means of communication between people which we cannot read? My answer to that question is: ‘No, we must not’”.
Home Secretary Theresa May has warned that the Government will push the legislation through with the recent terrorist atrocities in Tunisia and France forcing the government to act quickly.
