The maximum number of legislative aides the National Assembly recognises per lawmaker is five. But Honourable Temitope Olatoye Sugar, a member of the House of Representative who represents Lagelu/ Akinyele Federal constituency of Oyo State has about 116 legislative aides.
Speaking on Tuesday at a ‘Breakfast Media Chat’ organised by South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP), the lawmaker explained that the appointment of the aides was one way of taking care of his people.
He explained that it was a form of empowerment as those appointed would receive salaries and at the same time, facilitate constituency activities.
According to him, the support given to him during the election was overwhelming and it was clear that he had to take care of a lot of people
Hon. Olatoye, who is the Chairman House Committee on Urban and Regional Planning, also advised Nigerians to go into any form of agriculture, even if it was substistence farming.
He said: “If a lot of people are doing substitence farming, it will reduce the number of those looking for food and that will make the food available to go round”.
He disclosed that he has about 5000 acres of cassava farm which employs hundreds of people in his constituency. “If a lot of people are doing that, this fall in oil prices will not be affecting us at all” he said.
Explaining why he included parts of Ibadan which are not within his constituency in his ongoing free medical tests and surgeries programme, the lawmaker said that the programme was beyond his constituency.
According to him, Olatoye Sugar Foundation (OSF), which is in charge if the charity programme, is an international organisation which started in February 2007.
On February 14, Hon. Sugar, would celebrate Valentines Day with persons with disabilities and the less privileged.
