The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Babajide Sanwoolu as the winner of its Lagos governorship primaries held on Tuesday.
Chairman of the Electoral Panel appointed by the party’s National Working Committee, Clement Ebri, made the declaration on Wednesday, in what could be considered a U-turn to his declaration n Tuesday afternoon.
He had initially declared exercise as null and void on Tuesday, throwing the entire process conducted by the leadership of the party in Lagos State, with Tunde Balogun as Chairman, into confusion and controversy.
But the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, overruled him, declaring the election as a done deal, leading to Ebri’s latest announcement on Wednesday.
Sanwoolu contested for the ticket with incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode in a direct primary election. While Ambode scored 72,901 votes, Sanwoolu polled 970,851 votes.
By the declaration, Sanwoolu will now be the party’s candidate in the 2019 governorship election, denying Ambode a shot at a second term in office.
Ambode is yet to make his next move public.
