Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio on Friday charged volnteers for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari to works towards helping the president beat his closest rival in the presidential race by 10 million votes or more.
Akpabio, who is the National Coordinator of Presidential Support Committee (PSC), stated this in Ibadan during the inauguration of the South West Zonal executives and state coordinators of the PSC.
Akpabio stated that PSC is made up of over 1900 volunteered groups who are to mobilise support for the president.
Advising members of the committee to set a target for themselves, he said: “You must set a target for yourselves. Mr president must have over 10 million votes more than the next person.”
Our states are for APC and President Buhari. God has guaranteed victory for APC in 2019 because when we go for campaigns, we always plead with the security not to allow people into the stadium because everywhere we have been for campaigns, you will see crowd everywhere,” he added.
The former Senate minority leader, decsribed Buhari is a rare kind of leader that comes once in a generation.
“This man who has integrity has brought back respect to Nigeria. His integrity and honesty made African Head of states crown him czar of anti corruption in Africa. I joined APC because I believe in transformational leadership,” he said.
He continued: “When I was governor in 2012, we were getting zero allocation. There was massive corruption in NNPC and the petroleum ministry, the president brought TSA and everything improved. Yesterday at the University of Nigeria in Enugu, the president commissioned an edifice, an academic center of excellence built by the CBN. There were three of them awarded in 2006 but nothing was done, but the president came and commissioned one of it yesterday and the remaining two are also ready to be commissioned.
“He has improved power generation from 2.3 megawatts to 7 megawatts. He has also been fair to all the states by giving them bail out funds. He didn’t say you are PDP or you are APGA, he gave everybody bail out funds”.
In his welcome address, the PSC Deputy National Coordinator, South, Sen. Akin Odunsi gave kudos to the various groups mobilizing grassroots support for Buhari/Osinbajo and all APC candidates.
He said PSC will hold mega rallies in the six South West states on the same day to support President Buhari’s reelection.
Hon. Gideon Zamani, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs warned the Buharists that their job won’t be so easy.
“Supporting the president won’t be easy, you will be blackmailed, intimidated, your character will be assassinated and they will try to lure you with incentives but do not allow anything to derail you”.
Sen. Ajayi Boroffice will serve as the Zonal Coordinator of PSC in the South West while Engr. Dele Olanubi will serve as the secretary. Some other members of the committee are; Women Leader, Chief(Mrs) Yetunde Babajide; Deputy Women Leader ,Mrs Folasade Tinubu-Ojo; Treasurer, Rilwan Akinjagunla; Organising Secretary I,bOlugbenga Ogundare; Organising Secretary II, Adebisi Abraham; Director, Mobilisation and contact, Alhaji Garuba Goniya; Publicity Secretary, Doyin Johnson.
The State Coordinators are: Lagos, Moshood Salvador; Ondo, Olajide Adelani; Oyo, Erelu Laide Badmus; Osun, Lukman Abimbola Bello; Ogun, Suraj Fadairo; Ekiti, Chief Tunde Arifayan.
The State Women Coordinators are: Lagos, Motunrayo Salawu; Ondo, Adeyinka Adeyeye; Oyo, Alhaja Fatima Oluokun; Osun, Princess Adejoke Oyin-Adejobi; Ogun, Aderonke Dabiri; Ekiti , Adedamola Adeleye.
Major General Garuba Audu (Rtd), who is also a lawyer administered the oath of office on members of the committee.
