Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has picked Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, as his running mate for the 2023 election.
Farauta is currently the vice chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi.
She will replace the incumbent deputy governor of the state, Crowther Seth.
Seth, according to reports, has faced a tumultous time over issues of loyalty to the governor as well as dearth of popularity in Numan Local Governments Area, where he hails from.
The deputy governor fate was finally sealed when the candidate of the ruling PDP was roundly defeated during a councillorship bye-election in his Lamurde ward.Another controversy involving the deputy governor was his alleged bias in the raging communal clashes between the Lunguda and Waja ethnic nationalities in Guyuk Local Government Area.
At the unveiling ceremony Farauta in Yola on Wednesday, the governor said he picked the vice chancellor due to her honesty, integrity, transparency and hard work.
He said that she was expected to discharge her responsibilities with due diligence and fear of God, in addition to her motherly role of keeping the home.
“Her choice was a result of painstaking and strategic calculations especially the need to further carry the women along by being gender-sensitive,” he said.
Fintiri urged opposition parties to join hands with his administration in working for the progress and development of the state.
“We will play politics with decency and decorum and devoid of primordial sentiments or emotion,” he added.
In her remarks, Farauta, who described her selection as an act of God, thanked Fintiri and the PDP for finding her worthy of the position.
While giving assurance of serving with loyalty, commitment, dedication and fear of God, she said: “We will work assiduously to ensure victory for the party in all future elections.”
Farauta, born on November 28, 1965, hails from Numan Local Government Area of the state, same local government with Seth.
She is a technocrat and she is the North East region’s first female vice chancellor.
