The Grand Council of Yoruba Youths(Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba) has criticised the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP); former Zamfara State Governor, Sani Yerima, and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State over their recent comments on rotational presidency in 2023.
A statement signed on Friday by the President-General (Aare Apapo) of the organisation, Comrade Awa Bamiji, said PDP’s decision to jettison zoning arrangement in 2023 shows how it wants to express its gratitude to the people of the South East and South South of the country who have always voted enmass for the party.
“This shows that the party lacks focus and the aftermath of this could be suicidal as sitting governors and federal legislators are already defecting from the party to the ruling APC. It is as if they all knew that the ship of the party was heading towards the rock,” it said.
According to the statement, “the PDP governors from Southern part of the country where the electoral strength of the party comes from, had approved rotational presidency and publicly announced that it should be the turn of the South in 2023, before the Uche Secondus-led exco came out to say another thing, in their bid to finally wreck the ship of the party before jumping out.”
The group stated that rotational presidency is a divine project that will promote unity, equity, fairness and justice among the ethnic groups in the country.
“It is high time, the opposition PDP, Governor Yaya Bello of Kogi State, Senator Sani Yerima of Zamfara State and other upcoming political troubleshooters understand that rotational presidency will be in the best interest of all before getting more intoxicated and spending the intimidating funds at their disposal beyond what they can control, so as not to invite the wrath of Almighty God over themselves by going bankrupt or insolvent.
“A stitch in time saves nine,” the statement added.
