The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) troops, have reportedly entered The Gambia without any resistance from the military. The troops are said to be heading for the State House, which is the seat of government.
The ECOWAS troops entered The Gambia after midnight, hours after last minute talks between Mauritania President Mohamed Abdel Aziz and Mr Jammeh fell through.
It is learnt that the streets are deserted but there are no reports of shots fired.
Jammeh’s tenure ends today and President-elect Adama Barrow is expected to be sworn immediately Jammeh is sacked.
