Thirty-seven members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who just completed their three weeks orientation course, were involved in an accident around Danco petrol station axis in Sagamu on Monday.
The corpers left the NYSC orientation camp, Sagamu, in a white Toyota costal bus going to Sango when the driver lost control.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Clement Oladele, confirmed the incident.
He said out of the 37 corpers, 19 of them comprising nine males and ten females were injured but none of them died. The injured victims were evacuated to FRSC Accident Emergency Clinic at Sagamu.
He further said that out of the 19 corpers four of them were critically injured. The four victims were referred for further checks at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.
Mr Oladele said the accident was caused by speed violation and loss of control by the driver.
He said: “It rained this morning. The driver of the coastal bus was speeding and in the process, he lost control and the bus crashed.”
He advised corps members when commuting to always caution drivers who drive carelessly especially during the rainy season.
He added that if such drivers discard such warnings, commuters should call FRSC toll-free number (122) and officers will take necessary disciplinary action against such erring drivers.
