Abductors of the the Sierra Leonian Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson (retd.), have demanded $40 million ransom for his safe release, reports said on Friday.
The diplomat was kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Thursday.
He was kidnapped on his way to honour an invitation by the military for a programme.
It was learnt that efforts to reach the envoy on his GSM phone since Thursday by the Sierra Leonean embassy officials have proved abortive.
Though it has not been officially verified, embassy workers said the kidnappers contacted the embassy almost immediately after the diplomat was abducted to demand $40 million for safe return.
Nelson was kidnapped along the Kaduna Road where Nigerian colonel, Samaila Inusa was kidnapped about three months ago.
Inusa’s body was found dumped on the roadside days later.
The police said Inusa’s abductors have been arrested.
