As reports of President Bola Tinubu’s imminent cabinet reshuffle continues to gather pace, stakeholders under the aegis of Coalition of Pro-Democracy for a Better Nigeria, have once again appealed to the president to appoint one of their own, Comrade Awa Bamiji, as a minister.
The stakeholders made the appeal in a statement on Monday.
They described Awa as an outstanding youth leader, who has been consistent with his countless mass mobilisation projects, which are pro-democracy in nature over the last three decades
The stakeholders added that the activist is a loyal, dedicated and progressive-minded person, assuring Tinubu that he will enjoy Awa’s selflessness and dedication if he appoints him.
According to the coalition, the appointment of Awa as a minister would be strictly based on merit because of his huge contributions to democratic struggles before and after the return to democracy in 1999.
“There is no way you will talk about June 12 anniversary, Bola Ige annual symposium, Beko Ransome Kuti memorial lecture, Yoruba National Day and several other civil society outings in Nigeria without mentioning Awa Bamiji—an economist, a youth advocate, multi -talented activist, media icon and grassroots mobiliser of over three decades.
“His records speak for themselves,” the stakeholders said.
