The Assistant Inspector General of Police ( AIG) in charge of Zone XI, Mr Leye Oyebade on Wednesday stormed the farm of the abducted son of the former Minister of Health, Dayo Adewole, in company of the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Shina Olukolu, other senior officers of the police and Nigerian Army, for investigations.
Dayo was abducted by four unknown gunmen on Tuesday evening on the farm at Iroko, near Fiditi in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The AIG maintained that the kidnappers have no where to hide. He also assured the people of the area of adequate security of their lives and properties.
The security delegation was at Iroko to assess the situation, map out strategy to free the victim and arrest the abductors .
Dayo who the kidnappers singled out in the midst of his staff is a graduate of Agricultural Economics.
The Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi while giving update on the abduction said aside the senior police officers , other security agencies including the men of the Nigerian Army were also on the farm to assess the situation and to assist in ensuring the release of the captive.
The PPRO said there has been no communication from the abductors yet, but he noted that all hands are on deck to effect Dayo’s release and arrest the criminals.
According to Fadeyi, “the man, Dayo Adewole was abducted by four gunmen around 6:30pm at Iroko.
“The Area Commander in Moniya and other patrol teams had been alerted and are presently giving the armed men a hot chase.
“We are on their trail as I speak with you and more deployments had been made to rescue the guy and track down the abductors.”
He added that the vehicle with which the gunmen abducted the former minister’s son has been recovered.
A reliable source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Dayo was waylaid at gunpoint on his farm.
The source said “the villagers were alerted by the staff who survived the ordeal. Local hunters were mobilised by the Oniroko of Iroko.
“The hunters were said to have located the car of the abductors along the road to Iware village near Iroko.”
