The funeral of former governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, has been postponed.
There were reports on Thursday evening that the former governor will be buried in Ibadan on Friday morning.
But the spokesperson for the late former governor, Mr Bolaji Tunji, told reporters at Ajimobi’s residence in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, on Friday that the family would soon make an announcement on the burial programme.
“The funeral arrangements will be announced soon by the family but it will be observed privately so as to be in accordance with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines,” Tunji said.
He appealed to sympathizers who have been thronging Ajimobi’s residence, to continue following NCDC guidelines by washing their hands, using face mask, and keeping social distancing, among others.
Ajimobi died in a private hospital in Lagos on Thursday at the age of 70. Tunji’s announcement may have confirmed that the former governor died of COVID-19 complications which makes it necessary to comply with NCDC burial guidelines.
