The Association of Councillors Forum, Oyo State Chapter , has mourned the death of former Governor of Oyo State , Senator Abiola Ajimobi .
Ajimobi who served as Governor of the state between 2011 and 2019 died on Thursday, June 25, in Lagos.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon Adesoji Adesokan, on Friday, the Forum described Ajimobi’s death as a monumental loss to Oyo State, which the deceased served in different capacities till he breathed his last.
Adesokan described Ajimobi as a humble servant of the people, a compassionate leader, a politician whose actions were guided by the fear of God and a revered statesman whose impact positively affected the people he served.
“He will be sorely missed. While on earth, he affected so many lives positively. His footprints in the sand of history can never be forgotten especially in Oyo State where he ruled for eight good years. He was known as the builder of modern Oyo. His reign witnessed a great and tremendous transformation while it lasted.
“Ajimobi excelled at private sector, as a public servant, politician and community leader,” he said.
Adesokan noted that Ajimobi ’s tenure in Oyo State between May 2011 and May 2019 was remarkable in the execution of life changing policies and projects.
He also described Ajimobi as a disciplined and selfless party man and one of the leading lights of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the nation, adding that the former governor was a stabilising force in the ruling party.
The Forum said Ajimobi’s death has robbed the state and party of wise counsel, noting that the vacuum created by the loss will be difficult to fill.
Adesokan urged the family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life and left legacies of service, statesmanship, peacemaking and service to humanity
“Our revered leader has gone to be with his maker. We lost a refined statesman and a man of honour. We are however consoled by the fact that he lived a good life and left behind a legacy of honour and a good name. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Adesokan added.
