The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu(SAN) has described as commendable the donation of a March monthly allowance to the State Government by a corps member to support the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Receiving the donation from the corps member, Israel Arogbonlo at the Government House, Akure, Akeredolu said the commendable gesture of the patriotic Nigerian will help alleviate the effects of the pandemic on the people.
“This donation could save a whole family from starvation, as movements of people have been restricted to prevent the spread of the COVID -19,” he said.
Arakunrin Akeredolu stressed that the most important thing that the corps member has demonstrated is the unusual spirit of giving, which he said was worthy of emulation.
“This little drop can save a whole family. It can buy a bag of rice, put food on their table and save a whole family. It is the spirit behind the giving that is most important,” the governor said.
While presenting the cash donation to the Governor, Arogbonlo, a graduate of Mass Communication from Kogi State University, said the teachings he received while at the orientation camp to always put the nation first necessitated the move.
Arogbonlo, whose code number is OD/19C/0928 and an indigene of Kogi State said, “I extended what we have been taught at the camp and this is my own little way of supporting the Government in the fight against the COVID -19 pandemic.”
Expressing her heartfelt appreciation to the governor for personally receiving the cash donation on behalf of the State Government, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, said that Scheme is in the forefront of moulding graduate youths into becoming useful and better citizens of the country.
The State Coordinator disclosed that successive corps members are taught at the camp to always be positive minded and think of what they can do to complement the government in nation building.
The NYSC boss encouraged the corps members serving in all the states of the federation to emulate the kind gesture of Israel Arogbonlo and come out en masse to support the government to wage unrelenting war against the COVID -19 pandemic ravaging our society.
She appealed to corps members to observe all the precautionary measures such as regular and frequent washing of hands under running water with soap, applying hand sanitisers, observe the social distancing law and stay safe at home.
“My dear children in the national service, I know that by your nature you cannot stay in a particular place for a reasonable period of time but I want to admonish you to abide by the stay at home order of the government so that all of us collectively can win this war against Coronavirus” she concluded.
