Akinwole Akinwale, aka Wolekanle, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Oyo North Senatorial District, which consists of 13 local government areas in Oke Ogun and Ogbomoso.
The Ogbomoso-born entrepreneur was declared the winner by the electoral officer, Mr Babatude Akeem, at the election held in Iseyin, on Monday.
He polled 414 votes out of the 415 votes.
The primary election was monitored by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) electoral officers, security agencies among others.
Some of the dignitaries at the venue include the Chairman, Governor’s Advisory Council, Senator Hosea Agboola, commissioners, and top government functionaries.
Other stakeholders are Senatorial executives led by the Chairman, Hon. Kunle Yusuf, local government executives, national delegates, adhoc delegates, as well as elected and appointed local government executives.
Some of the council chairmen include Hon Kabir Ayoade, Ogbomoso North; Oyeniyi Timothy, Ogbomoso South; Hon Mufutau Abilawon, Iseyin; and Abduljeleel Oyinloye; Iwajowa.
The local government chairmen described the emergence of Akinwale as the right choice for the party and promised to work to ensure his victory and that of all the PDP candidates in Oyo North during the 2023 general elections.
While addressing the delegates, the national electoral officer of the party, Mrs Lauretia Mallam, said the process was done according to the laid down rule of the PDP.
She maintained that despite the information that some aspirants have withdrawn from the race, the process must be thorough.
