The Amotekun solidarity walk organised by the Yoruba World Congress(YWC) to drum up support for the creation of Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun has commenced across all the South West states.
The group had last week said it will embark on a solidarity walk on Tuesday, January 21, to rally support for thje security outfit and governors in the region, following the declaration of the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, that the setting up of the security outfit is illegal and against the country’s constitution.
As at 10:50am, members of the YWC; Youth groups; Agbekoya; Atayese; Yoruba Reconciliation; Oodua People Congress and Majiyagbe were seen arriving the Rememberance Arcade in front of the Government House, the take off point of the solidarity walk in Oyo State.
Members of the different groups were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “Yoruba Omo Oodua: Protect Yourself, Amotekun”, “On Amotekun we stand”, “We want to know who owns the Land. Amotekun”, No Amotekun, No Hisbah”, amongst others.
Also, there is heavy presence of security personnel at the venue as men of Department of State Service(DSS), Nigeria Police Force Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) were sighted.
The solidarity walk is holding simultaneously at the following venues across the South West states
1. Ogun State
Venue: Pansheke junction, Abeokuta
2. Ekiti State
Venue: Fajuyi roundabout, Ado-Ekiti.
3. Lagos State
Venue: Fawehinmi fredoom park,
Ojota.
4. Osun State
Venue: Nelson Mandela freedom park,
Osogbo.
5. Ondo State
Venue: Democracy Park, Opposite Oja-
