A leader of the All Progressive Congress(APC) in Egbeda local government area of Oyo state, Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan, was on Wednesday afternoon murdered in his residence by unknown assailants.
The unidentified men, who pretended to be guests, according to sources waited patiently for the late politician to complete his 2:00 p.m prayer at his Oremeji house before carrying out the dastardly act.
It was gathered that the unwanted visitors swooped on the 77-year old Oreitan immediately after he finished his prayer.
According to information gathered, the assailants, having familiarised themselves with the house, gruesomely murdered Oreitan and left without taking anything from the house.
He was discovered lifeless in his house by a neighbour who noticed hurried movement out of his apartment.
Meanwhile, the APC in the state has reacted to the gruesome murder of the late politician.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde, said what the public perceived as trivial was the great achievement of eight years in the area of security, which he described as the number one of all the achievements of Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, as the governor of the state between 2011 and 2019.
Olatunde accused the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) of targeting APC leaders since coming into power, adding that the assasination of Oreitan was not a co-incidence.
” What could be the offence of a 77-year-old amiable politician, whom those close to him will attest to the fact that he can’t even hurt a fly.
“APC is urging the security outfit in Oyo State to kindly unravel the identity of the heartless killer gang, who are hell bent to silence the opposition elements in the state.
“It is bad enough that it is not yet one year that APC left government that all these daylight assassination of opposition elements are taking place,” he said.
