The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku in the February 16 election.
In a statement by its Programme Officer, Segun Balogun, the group emphasized that it was erroneously listed among the socio-cultural groups that endorsed Atiku.
The reports claimed Mr. Yinka Odumakin spoke for ARG regarding the endorsement, according to ARG.
The statement read in part: “We would like to put it on record that Mr. Odumakin voluntarily relinquished his position as ARG’s publicity secretary since 2010.
“All our press statements ever since have been signed by our current publicity secretary, Mr. Kunle Famoriyo. Our media friends know this much. Yet some, whether out of ignorance or mischief, continue to portray Mr. Odumakin as our spokesperson.
“We did not endorse Atiku. We could not have done it since the person that reportedly relayed the ‘endorsement’ is not acting on our behalf.
“This clarification is issued to correct public opinion and has nothing to do with the person of Mr. Odumakin. We advise journalists to please take note.”
