A group of heavily armed attackers ambushed and killed a General in Burundi’s army, General Athanase Kararuza and his wife.
The assassinated General was also a security adviser to the country’s vice-president.
Reports said the gunmen fired at Kararuza’s car, killing him and his wife instantly. Their daughter survived the ambush but was injured and rushed to the hospital.
More than 400 people have been killed in unrest since President Pierre Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term last April and a string of high-ranking army officials have been targeted during the conflict.
