The Premier League have named Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as the manager of the month for August.
Arteta emerged winner of the award after Arsenal won all five games in August, scoring 13 goals and conceding only four in the process.
He is Arsenal’s second manager to win his opening five games of a Premier League season. Arsene Wenger achieved this record in two successive seasons during the invincible era of 2003/04.
The Gunners top the league with 15 points, a point ahead Manchester City who are with 14 points.
Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland was also named the best player in the Premier League following his fantastic form.
The Norwegian has been in brilliant form since he joined the Premier League Champions.
Haaland’s nine goals in his first five appearances were the most in the competition’s history, breaking the record of eight previously held by Mick Quinn and Sergio Aguero. He became the sixth player to score hat-tricks in consecutive Premier League appearances.
The forward is the first player to win the award in his first month in the Premier League since Bruno Fernandes won the award in February 2020.
Also, Newcastle’s goalkeeper, Nick Pope, won the inaugural Castrol Premier League Save of the Month award for August, after his reactionary stop to deny Brighton in August, while his teammate, Allan Saint-Maximin, won the Budweiser Premier League Goal of the Month for his stoppage time volleyed equaliser against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
