Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has formally dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This is coming barely three months after Shekarau defected to NNPP from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shekarau made the declaration on Monday at his Mundubawa residence in Kano State.
He was formally received into the PDP by the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, among other bigwigs.
Shekarau also said he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce his withdrawal from the Kano Central senatorial race under the NNPP.
“My action was predicated on restoring justice and fairness in Nigeria,” he said.
He assured of readiness to mobilise his supporters across the country to guarantee the victory of Atiku in next year’s presidential election.
Until 2018, Shekarau was a member of the PDP. Hr left the party due to the internal rift in the Kano State chapter of the party at the time.
He joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 and went on to contest the Kano Central Senatorial election on the party’s platform.
Those in attendance include the PDP vice presidential candidate and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa; PDP BoT chairman, Walid Jibrin; governors of Sokoto and Taraba States, Aminu Tambuwal and Darius Ishaku.
Others are former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former governors of Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna and Adamawa States; Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido; Attahiru Bafarawa; Ahmed Makarfi; Boni Haruna, among others.
