The son of Brazil’s celebrated USA ’94 World Cup winner, Bebeto, Mattheus Oliveiro, has joined Sporting Lisbon on a five year contract, the topflight Portuguese side announced on Tuesday.
Mattheus is the little baby Bebeto celebrated with a baby cradle sign after his goal against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals in Dallas.
Oliveiro, an attacking midfielder moves from Sporting’s doemstic rivals Estoril after starting his career at Rio de Janeiro side Flamengo.
Portuguese media suggest Oliveiro joins Sporting in a deal worth around two million euros, with a 60 million euro get out clause.
The club confirmed his arrival in a statement: “Sporting has reached an agreement with Estoril for the definite transfer of Mattheus Oliveira,” it read.
After two seasons with Estoril he has scored six goals in 56 appearances.
Oliveiro, 22, was just days old when his father – full name Jose Roberto Gama de Oliveira — helped Brazil win their fourth World Cup.
Bebeto, now a Rio state legislator, scored three goals in that triumphant campaign in the United States.
