The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, has revealed that bandits killed no fewer than 222 persons, abducted 774 persons, and injured 226 persons including women and minors, between April and June 2021 in the state.
The commissioner, who stated this while presenting the second quarter security report, also said bandits raped 20 women within the period.
He noted that 159 persons out of the number killed were from Kaduna Central Senatorial District which consists of Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas.
According to the commissioner, 54 persons were killed in Kaduna South Senatorial District, among them five women and four minors in Jema’a, Kachia and Kauru Local Government Areas.
He said the Northern Senatorial District recorded nine deaths within the period, adding that among those abducted were 239 women and 32 minors.
He disclosed that 87 bandits were killed by security agencies, while 24 suspects were arrested by the Department of State Services.
The commissioner put the total number of cattle rustled by bandits at 8,553.
“Insecurity, particularly in frontline communities, have threatened food security because most farmers in those communities have abandoned their farmlands for fear of being killed or kidnapped for ransom,” Aruwan added.
